Soumya Netrabile

Soumya Netrabile (b. 1966, Bangalore, India) does not describe herself as a landscape painter, nor does she define her works as landscapes. Although her paintings at times reference elements from nature, such as foliage, light and water, they are primarily abstract and developed through an intuitive approach to artmaking. Netrabile’s practice is rooted in a close engagement with the natural world and with the act of painting itself, allowing repetition and material sensitivity guide the composition. Rather than depicting specific places, her works explore states of perception and the relationship between body, environment, and image.
